Scent Detection Canines Declare War On Mold!

Now "man's best friend" is proving to be an incredibly effective weapon in the war on mold!

BearboyThough any dog is technically capable of detecting particular scents, our scent detection dog, "Bearboy" has gone through rigorous training in the specialized certification process, through the FSI K9 Academy. As a result, he can not only tell when mold is present, but can pinpoint its specific location, even when the mold is hidden behind walls or under floorboards.

By contrast, traditional air sampling methods, though useful, can only reveal what is in the air at the time of the sampling or evaluation, and it then becomes necessary to do further investigation to determine where the mold actually is located. These traditional methods often involve removing sections of walls or flooring to locate the mold, a destructive process to be sure!

Surprisingly, in some cases new homes (even multi-million dollar homes) can be more susceptible to mold growth because of common building practices and energy efficient, air tight walls. This is because when a home is built, it's not uncommon for the framing to get wet during construction, and because modern homes don't "breathe" as old homes once did, if the framing gets enclosed with wallboard and house wrap while it's wet, it will likely stay wet for a prolonged period of time, providing the ideal environment for mold to grow. Technically, under the proper conditions, mold can start colonizing on wood in as little as 48 hours!

Like mold, canines have been around since Biblical times, and with professional scent detection training, canines can generate quicker and more accurate results than the most sophisticated manmade air sampling equipment available, which means lower overall remediation costs for you, the customer. Although air sampling and lab testing is used to confirm canine alert sites and to identify the exact species of mold, its density, and its toxicity, scent detection canines are state of the art because they are able to pinpoint the location of hidden mold.
